Built between 1958 and 1961 the Class 42 Warships were one of the first mainline diesel locomotives to appear on the British Rail network. Replacing the old 'King' and 'Castle' class steam locos a total of 38 were built at Swindon Works and allocated between Newton Abbot or Laira depots. All but two of the fleet were named after Royal Navy vessels, hence the name, and these were unique amongst named locomotives in that the class name could be found in small letters under the main name on the cast metal nameplate. Not all the Warships were painted maroon, a few went straight from green to blue.

All our prints are printed using water based inks on sustainably sourced 315gsm Cold Press Watercolour Paper (CPWP). A 100% cotton rag paper with a matte finish and a tight, highly textured surface resemblant of etching paper.
Modelled after a true old world watercolour paper the natural white, OBA free base of this archival quality ‘cold press’ paper lends a traditional feel to our archival inkjet fine art prints.
The rough textured surface is coated with a matte coating, compatible with both pigment and dye inkjet printers providing a stable base for our images and ensuring they last for years.
Available in black, white, gold, silver, wood (natural) and brown (dark wood).
