By 1972 all the Westerns were painted in the ubiquitous BR Blue the only livery to be applied to the whole fleet. We all remember 1976 for the summer heatwave that lasted 10 glorious weeks, but to rail enthusiasts at the time it's remembered as the last hurrah of the Westerns. With its unique design and distinctive sound, the Western was the first diesel locomotive to have a popular following, something which had not been seen since the last days of steam a decade earlier. During those long hot summer days enthusiasts from all parts of the country, either on day trips or if you could afford it a week long Western Rail Rover, descended on the stations and depots of the Western Region to catch a glimpse of the remaining Westerns before their ultimate withdrawal early the following year.

About our paper

All our prints are printed using water based inks on sustainably sourced 315gsm Cold Press Watercolour Paper (CPWP). A 100% cotton rag paper with a matte finish and a tight, highly textured surface resemblant of etching paper.

Modelled after a true old world watercolour paper the natural white, OBA free base of this archival quality ‘cold press’ paper lends a traditional feel to our archival inkjet fine art prints.

The rough textured surface is coated with a matte coating, compatible with both pigment and dye inkjet printers providing a stable base for our images and ensuring they last for years.
